MILWAUKEE (WISN) — New video shows the moment a black pickup truck went flying over Interstate 43 North near the Hale Interchange over Layton Avenue in Greenfield.
The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 10.
Video obtained by WISN 12 News obtained from the Department of Transportation camera network shows the truck in the passing lane when a driver to the right tries to merge. That driver quickly retreats and goes back into the middle lane and in the same moment, the pickup loses control and crosses all lanes on the interstate. From there, the truck hits another guardrail, which sends it plummeting down into the marsh.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office says the driver survived.
The MCSO told 12 News the man did not need to be rescued from the wreckage and was able to free himself from his truck. Greenfield firefighters responded to the crash and the man was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries by a Greendale ambulance.
WISN 12 News talked to a man who saw the crash aftermath on Friday who described seeing the pick up truck being dragged out of the mud by a tow truck and being put on a flatbed. Video from News Chopper 12 shows the roof and front windshield of the car with damage.
“It was just covered with mud,” Chuck Zemen said.
“I was wondering if someone was hurt or something you know,” he said.
