One dead as Hurricane Lala lashes Hawaii’s Big Island as a Category 1 storm

▶ Watch Video: Hawaii governor calls state of emergency as hurricane Lala expected to pummel Big Island One person died in a car accident as Hurricane Lala lashed Hawaii's Big Island overnight with strong winds and heavy rain that flooded roads, despite not making landfall.The weather system strengthened into a hurricane on Saturday with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and slammed the island as a Category 1 storm. Landfall is no longer expected, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Joseph ClarkHawaii Gov. Josh Green said the weather got closest to the South Point "where we had one terrible car accident, one fatality.""Please be safe.
