FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Range Resources Corp. (RRC) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter profit of $179.1 million.

The Fort Worth, Texas-based company said it had net income of 75 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 82 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 68 cents per share.

The independent oil and gas company posted revenue of $820.2 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $811.9 million, also topping Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $762 million.

For the year, the company reported profit of $658 million, or $2.74 per share. Revenue was reported as $3.12 billion.

5 people injured in shooting at Virginia State University

Multiple people were injured in a shooting involving multiple suspects at Virginia State University, prompting a temporary campus lockdown early Saturday, the university said.The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m outside a university residence hall, and both campus police and are investigating, a university statement said. When police arrived, they found five people suffering from gunshot wounds.The victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. One person is currently in critical condition, while the remaining four sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, the university said. School officials said a "significant law enforcement presence remains on campus" as police continues its investigation. It was not immediately clear if any suspects had been arrested.Virginia State University is a historically Black university in Chesterfield, Virginia. Classes for the new academic year were set to begin on Monday, CBS News affiliate WTVR reported.
