Martinelli scores 32 as Northwestern knocks off Howard 80-60

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Nick Martinelli’s 32 points led Northwestern over Howard 80-60 on Tuesday.

Martinelli added six rebounds for the Wildcats (8-5, 0-2 Big Ten Conference). Tre Singleton scored 17 points and added eight rebounds and five assists. Justin Mullins finished 4 of 5 from 3-point range to finish with 12 points.

Travelle Bryson led the way for the Bison (9-6) with 19 points and six rebounds. Ose Okokie added 13 points for Howard. The Bison broke a five-game winning streak with the loss.

Northwestern took the lead with 10:44 remaining in the first half and did not trail again. Martinelli scored 21 points in the second half to lead the way as Northwestern went on to secure a victory, outscoring Howard by 17 points in the second half.

Hawkeyes are set to play Vanderbilt in a November women’s basketball game in Sioux City, Iowa

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Vanderbilt and Iowa, both ranked in the top 10 late last season, will meet in a women's basketball game early next season in northwest Iowa, the schools announced Tuesday. The neutral-site game is set for Nov. 15 at the Tyson Events Center, which is 290 miles from Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Vanderbilt is 4-0 all-time against the Hawkeyes. This will be the teams' first meeting since 1997. The Commodores are expected to return national scoring leader Mikayla Blakes. She averaged 27 points per game and was Southeastern Conference player of the year. Vanderbilt was ranked as high as No. 5 and finished No. 10 with a 29-5 record after reaching the NCAA Sweet 16.
