Thanksgiving Day is over and Black Friday is here, bringing holiday shoppers a taste of January before winter gets underway. Here’s what you need to know. A cold front moving through the D.C. area is bringing cold winds from the northwest across the region, as the holiday season gets underway this weekend, according to 7News First Alert Chief Meteorologist Veronica Johnson. “Get the winter gear ready to go! It is going to get progressively colder through Friday and the weekend,” Johnson said. WTOP Meteorologist Mike Stinneford said cloud cover will occur throughout the day, which may produce a few sprinkles or snow flurries in the afternoon. The National Weather Service added that the same cold front plans to bring snow showers west of the Allegheny Mountains Friday and Saturday. Skies will clear up by Friday evening, Stinneford said, but you should expect some of the coldest temperatures since January. “Skies will clear tonight, and with diminishing winds, temperatures will tumble after sunset, with all of the area in the 20s by sunrise Saturday morning,” Stinneford said. The cold weather will continue throughout the weekend, with highs staying in the low 40s.
