Late-season heat is forecast to settle across the D.C. region through Thursday, with temperatures climbing above normal and heat index values topping 100.
A hot and humid start to Monday will continue in the evening as scattered afternoon and showers and thunderstorms are possible, with rain chances around 40%. The National Weather Service also said partly cloudy and warm conditions are expected Monday night, with lows in the mid-70s. It expects scattered evening showers and thunderstorms may linger before skies gradually clear overnight.
Tuesday through Thursday will be hot and humid, with highs in the mid-90s Tuesday and Wednesday before reaching the upper 90s in some spots Thursday. The National Weather Service said heat index values are expected to range between 100 and 105.
Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms remain possible Tuesday, with additional storm chances continuing Thursday. The National Weather Service said rain chances range from 30% to 40%.
In the District, Mayor Muriel Bowser activated a heat alert until 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Relief is forecast to arrive by the end of the week, with high temperatures around 90 Friday.
7News Meteorologist Eileen Whelan said the D.C. area can expect temperatures in the lower 80s Saturday, Sunday and Labor Day Monday, adding “the holiday weekend looks great.”
