Another round of snow and rain made for a tricky morning commute on Monday. Fortunately, the worst of that cold, wet weather has moved out of the area. And with temperatures inching above the freezing mark — the threat of treacherous roads has passed. The rest of the day was cloudy, and the lows will stay in the 30s, said Storm Team4’s Amelia Draper. “We should have enough dry time before temperatures approach that freezing mark late tonight through early tomorrow morning,” she said, “so I’m not super concerned about a refreeze.” And with the official start of spring less than a month away, temperatures will begin to tick upward a bit around D.C. later this week: The high will be in the high 50s on Wednesday, which Draper said will be “mostly sunny, breezy at times and beautiful.”

Frederick County reported over 2 inches of accumulation, and snow squalls caused low visibility on parts of Interstate 270, Interstate 81 and Interstate 70 northwest of the District. Up to 4 inches of snow had fallen along the stretch of I-70 between Frederick and Hagerstown, and in neighboring Carroll County. The WTOP Traffic Center had tracked over two dozen weather-related crashes and other incidents in the area by mid-morning on Monday, with a cluster of crashes in the Frederick area. WTOP traffic anchor Jack Taylor noted snow was sticking to roadways, with salt trucks treating surfaces on major highways. A listener reported a partial road collapse on westbound Central Avenue before Southern Avenue in Capitol Heights, Maryland:

Because of Monday’s weather, COVID-19 vaccination centers in Loudoun County, Virginia, were closed. Anyone with an appointment scheduled for Monday will be contacted to reschedule.
