WAUKEE, Iowa (KCCI) — Parents in Waukee could soon be fined for allowing their children to play in streets or alleys after being warned by law enforcement or city officials.
The city council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance update that would make such actions a simple misdemeanor.
City leaders said the proposal is aimed at ensuring children’s safety.
The standard fine for simple misdemeanors under state code ranges from $105 to $855.
The proposal still needs to pass two more readings before it can be enacted.
