(KISSIMMEE, Fla.) — A 4-year-old boy shot and killed a 2-year-old boy with a gun that was left unsecured in a car, according to authorities in Florida.

Officers responded Sunday afternoon to a home in Kissimmee where they found a 2-year-old boy with a gunshot wound, Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon said at a news conference. The little boy was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff said.

The two children were alone in the car when the 4-year-old found an unsecured gun and discharged it, striking the 2-year-old, the sheriff said.

The gun was “literally in the open,” Blackmon said.

“I would think if it’s in a holster, maybe make it harder for the child to manipulate, as well, but it’s literally laying out by itself. So it’s easy to grab, and you pull the trigger. And you can’t recall that, it’s not a video game,” Blackmon said.

The sheriff described the two boys as relatives but not siblings.

“The family had just arrived and was visiting here from Georgia” for vacation, Blackmon said.

The investigation is ongoing, the sheriff said, noting that charges are likely. Prosecutors said on Wednesday, “Because this is an active and ongoing investigation, we have no information to release at this time.”

White House renews its attempt to remove Fed Governor Lisa Cook

Washington (CNN) — The White House is renewing its effort to remove Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors, according to a letter addressed to her attorney obtained by CNN.The letter, dated August 5, said there is “sufficient reason to believe that you have made false statements on one or more mortgage agreements,” and asked her to submit a written response to the allegations within 21 days. The Trump administration first raised the accusations last year, which prompted a Justice Department investigation. Cook has not been charged with a crime and has denied any wrongdoing.ABC News was the first to report on the letter. The Supreme Court in June ruled that Cook wasn’t given the opportunity to address the administration’s accusations of mortgage fraud when President Donald Trump announced her firing last year. However, the ruling was narrow in scope as it did not determine there was enough cause to remove Cook based on the fraud allegations.“These allegations are as baseless now as they were a year ago when President Trump tried to remove Governor Cook and interfere with the independence of the Federal Reserve,” Cook’s attorneys, Abbe Lowell and Norm Eisen, said in a statement. “No matter what President Trump tries to do next, this much is clear under the facts and Supreme Court precedent — there is no valid cause for removing Governor Cook.”“As we did before, we will challenge this latest pretext and preserve her position and the historic role of the Fed,” they wrote.CNN has reached out to the Fed for comment. This is a developing story and will be updated.The-CNN-Wire™ & © 2026 Cable News Network, Inc., a Warner Bros.
