Catherine Hoggle indicted on two counts of murder

WASHINGTON — Catherine Hoggle, the Montgomery County mother of two children who vanished in 2014, was indicted on two counts of murder. Hoggle’s children, Sarah and Jacob Hoggle, were 3 and 2 years old when they went missing in 2014 and have never been found. Hoggle was the last person to see them alive on Sept. 7, 2014. She told conflicting stories to the childrens’ father, Troy Turner, and investigators about where the children were. Hoggle has a history of mental health issues, including paranoia and schizophrenia, according to her attorney and Turner. In 2014, Hoggle was charged with three misdemeanors: parental abduction, neglect and hindering or obstructing an investigation. She was deemed incompetent to withstand trial and had been undergoing treatment at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital, the state psychiatric hospital. Prosecutors say Hoggle is faking her mental illness to avoid trial.

Her attorney, David Felsen, told WTOP that he hasn’t been advised of the indictments. Her lawyer had asked for the misdemeanors to be dismissed in August.

Her mother, Lindsey Hoggle, told WTOP she is hopeful the children will be found alive. WTOP’s Neal Augenstein contributed to this report.
