George Washington Parkway reopens after race in Va.

Part of the George Washington Parkway was closed to accommodate a race through Old Town Alexandria, Virginia Sunday morning. The George Washington Parkway Classic starts at 8 a.m. and the kids race starts at 10:30 a.m. The parkway is closed from Mount Vernon to Old Town Alexandria, according to U.S. Park police.



The roadway reopened around 10:30 a.m.

The race includes a 5K, 10K and a 600-meter dash for kids. More information is available on the event’s website.

Washington Manassas Airport cleared to offer commercial airline flights

Washington Manassas Airport, formerly known as Manassas Regional Airport, has taken a big step toward its goal of offering passenger service. The airport, which is owned by the city of Manassas, Virginia, received its FAA Part 139 Airport Operating Certificate, a designation required before commercial airlines can begin service. During a ceremony Monday, FAA Associate Administrator Dan Edwards presented a framed version of the certificate to airport leaders.  Edwards said it's "extremely rare" for an existing airport that caters to private flights to clear this hurdle.
