Metro police seek help identifying man killed by train

Metro is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who they say walked onto the tracks and was killed by a train last December.

The Metro Transit Police on Monday released a photo of the man who they say was in the Franconia-Springfield station just before 9 p.m. Dec. 17 and walked onto the tracks.

The police said they’ve searched missing persons reports and law enforcement databases and still haven’t been able to identify him.

Washington Manassas Airport cleared to offer commercial airline flights

Washington Manassas Airport, formerly known as Manassas Regional Airport, has taken a big step toward its goal of offering passenger service. The airport, which is owned by the city of Manassas, Virginia, received its FAA Part 139 Airport Operating Certificate, a designation required before commercial airlines can begin service. During a ceremony Monday, FAA Associate Administrator Dan Edwards presented a framed version of the certificate to airport leaders. Edwards said it's "extremely rare" for an existing airport that caters to private flights to clear this hurdle.
