A 7-year-old girl was shot and evacuated by helicopter on the northbound Baltimore-Washington Parkway near the Capital Beltway just after 1 p.m. Monday. U.S. Park Police are searching for 20-year-old Alec Gary Wilbur in connection with the afternoon shooting. Police said Wilbur should be considered armed and dangerous. WTOP news partner NBC Washington reported the girl’s condition is unknown. Greenbelt Mayor Colin Byrd told WTOP the incident started as an act of road rage and then “turned into a shooting on the parkway.” U.S. Park Police officers found the girl with a gunshot wound on her leg when they arrived following a report on the parkway shooting, according to the agency. On Monday, the shooting investigation closed a 2-mile segment of the roadway and backed up traffic in both directions for nearly four hours.
