WASHINGTON — Metro is moving forward with plans to sell its headquarters near Capital One Arena and Judiciary Square.
In a presentation to the Metro Board slipped onto the agenda at the last moment Thursday, Metro staff recommended consolidating Metro’s office space by leasing new space and selling the Jackson Graham Building.
Eventually, Metro would have seven office locations rather than 10 and save $130 million over 20 years, Metro said.
Metro would also plan to buy a new office space in Maryland and Virginia.
Metro has looked into selling its aging office building for more than a decade.
The sale price is still to be negotiated once the District rules on an application to refine the property this fall to make it more valuable.
Metro plans to buy a new office building in the District as soon as later this year to serve as its headquarters with 100,000 to 250,00 square feet of space.
The new Maryland and Virginia office space would be purchased sometime in the next two years.
