Simmons’ 24 help Ohio down Buffalo 95-83

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Javan Simmons scored 24 points as Ohio beat Buffalo 95-83 on Saturday.

Simmons had 13 rebounds for the Bobcats (12-11, 6-5 Mid-American Conference). Aidan Hadaway scored 19 points and added nine rebounds. JJ Kelly had 17 points and shot 6 of 13 from the floor and 3 of 3 from the free-throw line.

The Bulls (14-8, 4-6) were led by Daniel Freitag, who posted 25 points and four assists. Ryan Sabol added 22 points, six rebounds and five assists for Buffalo. Angelo Brizzi put up 15 points and two steals.

Ohio took the lead for good with 10:59 left in the first half. The score was 46-31 at halftime, with Simmons racking up 16 points. Ohio was outscored by Buffalo in the second half by three points, with Kelly scoring a team-high 13 points in the final half.

Hawkeyes are set to play Vanderbilt in a November women’s basketball game in Sioux City, Iowa

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Vanderbilt and Iowa, both ranked in the top 10 late last season, will meet in a women's basketball game early next season in northwest Iowa, the schools announced Tuesday. The neutral-site game is set for Nov. 15 at the Tyson Events Center, which is 290 miles from Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Vanderbilt is 4-0 all-time against the Hawkeyes. This will be the teams' first meeting since 1997. The Commodores are expected to return national scoring leader Mikayla Blakes. She averaged 27 points per game and was Southeastern Conference player of the year. Vanderbilt was ranked as high as No. 5 and finished No. 10 with a 29-5 record after reaching the NCAA Sweet 16.
