Phat Phat Brooks scores 20 and Central Michigan defeats Kent State 87-85

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Phat Phat Brooks scored 20 points as Central Michigan beat Kent State 87-85 on Saturday.

Brooks shot 6 for 15 (2 for 5 from 3-point range) and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line for the Chippewas (5-12, 1-4 Mid-American Conference). Keenan Garner added 16 points while going 5 of 7 and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line and had four steals. Tamario Adley shot 6 for 11, including 3 for 5 from beyond the arc to finish with 15 points. The Chippewas ended a five-game skid with the victory.

Jahari Williamson led the Golden Flashes (12-4, 3-1) in scoring, finishing with 23 points. Morgan Safford added 20 points and seven rebounds for Kent State. Cian Medley had 14 points and eight assists.

Central Michigan went into the half leading Kent State 49-43. Garner scored 10 points in the half. Central Michigan led 87-82 before Williamson hit a 3-pointer with four seconds left for the final margin.

Hawkeyes are set to play Vanderbilt in a November women’s basketball game in Sioux City, Iowa

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Vanderbilt and Iowa, both ranked in the top 10 late last season, will meet in a women's basketball game early next season in northwest Iowa, the schools announced Tuesday. The neutral-site game is set for Nov. 15 at the Tyson Events Center, which is 290 miles from Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Vanderbilt is 4-0 all-time against the Hawkeyes. This will be the teams' first meeting since 1997. The Commodores are expected to return national scoring leader Mikayla Blakes. She averaged 27 points per game and was Southeastern Conference player of the year. Vanderbilt was ranked as high as No. 5 and finished No. 10 with a 29-5 record after reaching the NCAA Sweet 16.
