The Latest: US military strikes targets in Iran over attempted attacks on shipping

The U.S. military says it’s striking new targets in Iran as hostilities flare again after a month without military action. U.S. Central Command said Tuesday that the strikes follow recent attempted attacks by the Iranian government against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump acknowledged Monday that more strikes might be necessary a day after the U.S. military said it struck rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded by launching missiles at U.S. sites in Jordan, which were intercepted, while the United Arab Emirates said it stopped an Iranian drone over its waters. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is stepping down after just 18 months on the job. The White House announced his departure after Driscoll spoke with President Donald Trump about the current state of the Army, an Army official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
