A Maryland man and his adult son are charged with illegally distributing more than a kilogram of fentanyl.
Federal prosecutors said Rashad Hicks, 36, of Largo, is charged by complaint with distribution of 400 grams or more of the synthetic opioid drug. His 62-year-old father, Lawrence, of District Heights, is also charged with possession with intent to distribute over 400 grams of fentanyl.
The charges are in connection to a multiagency investigation that lasted several months, according to Maryland’s U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Beginning in January 2026, the Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI and Charles County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Rashad, who allegedly was selling large quantities of fentanyl that was provided by his father, according to charging documents.
Prosecutors said an undercover officer made eight controlled purchases of fentanyl from Rashad Hicks, totaling more than 1,300 grams of the drug, with a street value of more than $100,000.
During the arrests, armed with search warrants, investigators seized fentanyl, suspected cocaine base, two loaded firearms and approximately $5,000 in cash, at Rashad’s home. At his father’s home agents recovered suspected fentanyl and cocaine as well as approximately $10,000 in cash.
All told, the street value of the illegal substances is approximately $1,700,000, according to prosecutors.
If convicted, each man would face a mandatory minimum of 10 years and up to life in prison for distributing more than 400 grams of fentanyl.
