A 16-year-old boy was injured in what Virginia State Police are calling an “officer-involved shooting” in Fairfax County early Tuesday morning.
State police said a Virginia state trooper learned Fairfax City Police had attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Burke Station Road and Main Street, when a suspect’s vehicle sped away around 12:43 a.m.
The state trooper, along with a pair of Fairfax County K-9 units, later responded to 9500 block of Maury Road, which is tied to the registration of the suspect’s vehicle.
That’s where state police said a 16-year-old boy ran off, despite being told to stop.
The state trooper managed to tackle the teenager, and “during the struggle, one shot was fired,” state police said.
The boy was transported to a hospital suffering from injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening, state police said.
No law enforcement officers were injured.
The 16-year-old, who state police said is a “known gang associate,” is being investigated for unauthorized use of a vehicle.
He is in police custody for outstanding warrants, including a probation violation and auto larceny.
