Freezing rain and sleet coated area roads with ice Tuesday morning but the rain that followed washed it away as temperatures picked up. Unfortunately, the upward temperature trend won’t last. Here’s what you need to know.

Parts of the northern suburbs saw light freezing rain and sleet overnight, while those in the south mostly received some light rain and drizzle. Temperatures ticked up by mid-morning and rain melted most of the ice away.

The rain will taper off later Tuesday. Wednesday is forecast to be pleasant, with a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures in the mid-40s. There is a chance for flurries overnight Wednesday. Thursday and Friday are expected to be cold and windy. The next chance for an impactful storm will be Sunday into Monday.
