WASHINGTON — As heavy rains poured down onto the D.C. area Saturday, drivers in the region have taken a hit due to flooding conditions and other traffic troubles.
WTOP traffic reporters said that street flooding caused blocked lanes in Maryland, Virginia and D.C. D.C. At Canal Road at Arizona Avenue Northwest and on Interstate 295 after East Capitol Street, there was street flooding on the right side of the road. On Saturday night, all lanes were blocked for a couple of hours on southbound Rock Creek Parkway at Waterside Drive/Massachusetts Avenue due to high water. Maryland Drivers were advised to use caution on U.S. 29/Colesville Road on the southbound ramp to Interstate 495 due to street flooding. On U.S. 50 at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, a wind warning was in effect and high-profile vehicles were advised to use caution. Between Annapolis and Davidsonville, all lanes on Maryland Route 450/Defense Highway were blocked by street flooding between St. Stephens Church Road and Huntwood Drive. Virginia On the George Washington Parkway, near Interstate 395 and the 14th Street Bridge, drivers saw flooding on the left side of the street. On the Fairfax County Parkway, the southbound ramp to Va. 123 was blocked due to street flooding. On Interstate 66 there was flooding on the right side of the westbound lanes after Interstate 495 due to street flooding. The eastbound left lane was impassable between U.S. Route 50 and Route 123. In McLean, Virginia, flooding was reported on Georgetown Pike between Swinks Mill Road and Spring Hill Road. Fairfax County police reported several road closures due to flooding.

Water rescues have been reported in Fairfax and Prince William counties in Virginia; and in Montgomery County in Maryland.
