Michigan’s highly regarded freshman guard McCoy will miss season with right knee injury

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — One of Michigan’s top recruits, guard Brandon McCoy Jr., will miss the 2026-27 season for the defending national champion Wolverines after suffering a right knee injury.

New Michigan coach Mike Boynton Jr. announced on Tuesday that McCoy suffered an ACL injury to his right knee.

McCoy was ranked as the No. 14 prospect in the country by 247Sports. Michigan announced McCoy suffered the injury early in Michigan’s tour finale against KK Mega SUPERBET in Montenegro.

McCoy averaged 14.5 points, five rebounds and four steals in the Wolverines’ first two games of their European Tour in Lithuania. He had 15 points and five rebounds against the Lithuania National B Team after scoring 14 points with five rebounds and four steals in his Michigan debut against the Lithuania National Team.

(AP) — Kyle Whittingham turned left out of his office on the second floor of Schembechler Hall and walked down a hallway for his midday workout, following a routine he has stuck with six days a week since July 1, 2008. “Today's a light one,” Whittingham said to a reporter on Tuesday. Not quite. Michigan's first-year coach will turn 67 in November while preparing to play rival Ohio State, but the 6-foot, 220-pound former BYU, NFL and USFL linebacker looks fit enough to play some snaps for the Wolverines.
