GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Jerry Kaminski threw five touchdown passes to lead North Dakota to a 62-26 victory over St. Thomas on Saturday.
Kaminski was 23-of-29 passing for 233 yards. Deng Deng and Korey Tai combined for 10 catches for 143 yards and three touchdowns. Sam Strandell and Mason South also had touchdown catches for North Dakota (2-0).
Charles Langama had a 15-yard touchdown run and finished with 120 of the Fighting Hawks’ 295 yards on the ground. Griffin Broderick and Javance Tupou’ata-Johnson also had touchdown runs.
Avery Dixon picked off an Anthony Policare pass on the second play from scrimmage and returned it 34 yards into the end zone as North Dakota scored on six of their eight possessions in the first half for a 41-12 lead. The Fighting Hawks, ranked eighth in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll, finished with 528 yards of offense.
Malachi Boadi-Aboagye had a 74-yard pick-6 late in the first half for St. Thomas (1-1). Nick Peipert threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Wagner late in the third quarter and finished 5 of 9 for 111 yards passing for the Tommies. Policare was 12-of-24 passing for 128 yards.
It was the first meeting between the teams since 1964.
