WASHINGTON — With just days to go before Amazon’s deadline for receiving proposals for its second full headquarters project, the District has put together a short list of locations it is now pitching.
Mayor Muriel Bowser Monday announced four locations that she believes suit Amazon’s needs: Anacostia Riverfront, Capitol Hill East, Shaw-Howard University and NoMa-Union Station.
“These locations present unparalleled opportunity for Amazon to create interconnected, transit-oriented and sustainable campuses with access to riverfront and green spaces,” Bowser said in a statement.
“Our city’s growing tech scene, talented and diverse workforce, rich culture and inclusive environment already made Washington, D.C., an ideal location for Amazon HQ2, and now people can begin to think more specifically about how the tech company will fit into our community,” she said.
Amazon has said it will invest up to $5 billion in construction over the next 10 to 15 years to create its second headquarters. After choosing a location, Amazon expects to occupy its first 500,000 to 1 million square feet of office space by late 2019.
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development and the DC Office of Planning analyzed the city to identify potential locations that met Amazon’s Request for Proposals.
The deadline for submitting proposals is Oct. 19.
