Abigail tests the homepage

In a rare exhibit of teamwork, Abigail decided to test the homepage and log issues she has found in the spreadsheet.

The seemingly facile exercise is daunting for a person averse to following directions and with a terminal case of pugnacious resistance to authority.

“I am not a fan of putting things in tiny boxes and also checking whether my fingers as placed correctly on the keyboard,” Abigail said.

While others may see it as “No big deal” or say to her, “Just put it in the box, what’s the heck is your problem,” Abigail said she physically cannot do it and it is killing her soul, or whatever it is that makes existence bearable and allow humanity to cling to the false hope of higher existence until the sweet release of death or going on a vacation.

Below are the results of her testing.

This is a subhead

One of the things she wants to test is how to put a subhead in an article. This is something that is typically done and have been told that SEOs love subheads.

Thomas, however, does not care for subheads and often refuses to put subheads in there. “Not everything needs a subhead,” Thomas would often say. However, he is often overridden and subheads are put in surreptitiously when he is not looking or when he has stepped away to go to the Trader Joe’s.

On the occasion that he does check whether we left off subheads in stories we edit, he shrugs in defeat.

Jessica has things to do, another subhead

The other good thing about putting a subhead in is that you don’t have to connect the previous paragraph with the current paragraph.

Here are the things Jessica has to do:

  • Write articles about the election.
  • Mentor youth journalists.
  • Schedule a work day for writing articles about the election and mentoring youths.

I’ma make a table

This is something that we often use for election results stories because lists are unwieldy and boring and table is exciting and dangerous.

Why would this ever be done? Who knows but it’s testing and all things are possible if you wake up early.

Here is one with a photo.

dude running

WHO IS THIS GUY?

Who is this guy? He is a runner. He runs for freedom, for justice, for fitness. He is a runner.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF RUNNING?

  • Running makes you fit.
  • Running makes you healthy.
  • Running feels good.
  • Running makes you not have a fatty liver.

This video is tiny.

Audio and quote things

Here is where we can add an audio to things. It really does not do anything, I think, but it does remind people that WTOP is a radio station.

“We are the top earning radio station in the U.S.” — says someone who said it. This is a plain ol’ quote block.

Now below is fancy pullquote block.

“WTOP helps get me through the hustle and bustle of traffic.” – says someone who drives (logger)

It’s time to test photos

I’m going to insert gallery. Here it is below.

Below is a big ol’ photo.

Let’s do video!

This is video for a story I did about nerds with sticks in a field. It was awesome.

Marble columns!

Why would we ever put columns in a story? Let’s find a good reason to do it!!!

Should I get bangs?

Cons of getting bangs

  • Growing them out.
  • Styling them.
  • Postponed regret.
  • Manic-pixie girl vibes.

Pros of getting bangs

  • Manic-pixie girl vibes.
  • Hide forehead blemishes.
  • French ingenue.
  • Empowering.

That’s how you column!

Embedding stuff

Twitter/X

Facebook and Instagram embeds

I don’t think these work. Also Embed URL is weird. Is it an embed or is it a URL.

In conclusion

In conclusion, Abigail tested a lot. The testing was punctuated by eating cookies, chips, chicken and snooping around what other people are doing, including the managers meetings where they were all eating Jettys sandwiches, yet there were no sandwiches for the newsroom. Other people eat lunch, too, I hope that’s clear. “We need sandwiches, too!” Abigail said.

Abigail is getting ready to log the testing stuff, even though it is much easier to type this up than put it into tiny cells.

“Let information breathe! People like white space,” Abigail said in futility.

She is now going to add related stories in here somewhere.
