Clara Strack scores 26, No. 12 Kentucky women win 96-53 over Wright State

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Clara Strack scored 26 points and the No. 12 Kentucky women hit 10 3-pointers in the first half in a 96-53 win over Wright State on Friday night.

The Wildcats (12-1) went on a 22-0 run in the second quarter, fueled by five 3-pointers — two by Kaelyn Carroll, and one each from Strack, Josie Gilven and Asia Boone. Kentucky was up 57-24 in the first half, the most the Wildcats have scored in a first half this season.

Carroll and Boone each hit three 3-pointers total in the first half.

Kentucky finished the game on a 13-2 run, keeping Wright State (5-9, 1-2 Horizon League) off the board for almost all of the last five minutes. The Wildcats shot 33 of 74 (45%) from the field.

Tonie Morgan and Carroll both scored 18 points in the win. Boone added 17 for the Wildcats. Strack shot 9 of 18 from the field and was 7 of 9 from the free throw line. Kentucky is now 12-1 for the second straight year to start the season.

Wright State opened the scoring for the game off a 3-pointer from Abbie Riddle and led for the first 2:48, until Morgan hit a jumper to take the lead for Kentucky. Riddle and Claire Henson led the Raiders in scoring with 10 points each.

Hawkeyes are set to play Vanderbilt in a November women’s basketball game in Sioux City, Iowa

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Vanderbilt and Iowa, both ranked in the top 10 late last season, will meet in a women's basketball game early next season in northwest Iowa, the schools announced Tuesday. The neutral-site game is set for Nov. 15 at the Tyson Events Center, which is 290 miles from Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Vanderbilt is 4-0 all-time against the Hawkeyes. This will be the teams' first meeting since 1997. The Commodores are expected to return national scoring leader Mikayla Blakes. She averaged 27 points per game and was Southeastern Conference player of the year. Vanderbilt was ranked as high as No. 5 and finished No. 10 with a 29-5 record after reaching the NCAA Sweet 16.
