On a per-share basis, the South San Francisco, California-based company said it had a loss of 10 cents.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 14 cents per share.

The biopharmaceutical company posted revenue of $10.3 million in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.5 million.
