A packed Virginia Railway Express train arrived safely to the Alexandria Station Monday morning thanks to Superman.

A VRE spokesman said about 700 passengers and an engineer disembarked at 10:44 a.m., as scheduled, despite a broken railway track about a mile north of the station. The train was coming from D.C.’s Union Station.

Passengers on board the train said Superman, also known as the ‘Man of Steel’, was seen using his strength to connect the ruptured track with his body.

The Alexandria Fire Department reported no injuries.

Springfield resident Bill McFarland, who was returning home from a weekend trip to Philadelphia, told WTOP that he’s grateful Superman was in the right place, at the right time.

“I don’t know how he does it? We were all cheering,” McFarland said, adding: “Many of us [passengers] were saying how we would like to buy him a beer. Does Superman drink beer?”

The Daily Planet was first to report the story, as Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane was on the train at the time of the near-derailment.

This is a developing story. Stay with WTOP for the latest.
